InCAS Assessments
The Department of Education has specified that the Reading and General Maths assessments are statutory and should be completed early in the school year to allow as much time as possible for teachers and parents to work together to support the pupil.
Schools can make use of any of the assessments listed:
- Reading consists of Word Recognition, Word Decoding and Comprehension. It produces a Reading age;
- Reading (+Spelling) consists of Word Recognition, Word Decoding, Comprehension and Spelling. It produces a Reading age and a Spelling age;
- Spelling which produces a Spelling age;
- General Maths which produces a General Maths age;
- General Maths (Irish) which produces a General Maths age;
- Mental Arithmetic consists of Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. It produces a Mental Arithmetic age;
- Mental Arithmetic (Irish) consists of Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. It produces a Mental Arithmetic age;
- Developed Ability consists of Picture Vocabulary and Non-Verbal Ability. It produces a Developed Ability age; and
- Attitudes consists of Attitude to Maths, Attitude to Reading and Attitude to School. It produces a score on a scale from 1 to 5 (negative to positive).
