1. I have received information about InCAS practice tests. Would it be in the interests of my pupils to use these in preparation for the assessments?

The InCAS assessments are designed to highlight pupils’ strengths and areas for improvement. This helps teachers to plan learning and teaching.

If pupils practice InCAS style questions these areas for improvement may be masked, giving misleading outcomes. Neither the developers of INCAS or CCEA provide practice tests for this reason.

2. Is it necessary to use Profiles 7 software to complete the Annual Pupil Profile Reports?

No, the use of Profiles 7 is optional. Schools are able to determine the most appropriate way to produce their Annual Pupil Profile Reports.

7. How can I inform CCEA of my views regarding the use of the Annual Pupil Profile Reports and InCAS assessments?

Between 4th and 27th June, CCEA is hosting 10 evaluation focus groups for teachers; 3 for principals and 5 for parents. For those who are unable to attend these focus groups evaluation questionnaires have been sent to all primary schools.

8. What information will CCEA provide to help schools prepare for their InCAS assessments in 08-09?

All primary schools have received an Information for Primary Principals folder that includes guidance on InCAS computer-based assessments and Annual Pupil Profile reports.

Schools will also receive a “Preparation” letter at the start of the autumn term that will provide step-by-step instructions in the use of InCAS. This letter will include a reminder of your school Username and Password for uploading assessments and downloading feedback.

If schools require any additional support they should contact the Pupil Profile helpdesk on (028) 90 261274.
