Listening and performing 2
Learning Intentions
- We are learning to develop our understanding of major chords.
- We are learning to perform a fanfare piece.
What to look for
- Pupils actively listening to examples of well-known fanfares
- Pupils playing the Fanfare from the Overture to William Tell by Rossini
Learning Activities
Introduce pupils to the structure of the G major triad.
Introduce them to the idea of a fanfare by explaining:
- what fanfares are used for; and
- that fanfares are based on chords, such as the one they have learned how to play.
Give them an opportunity to listen to some fanfares, for example:
- ‘Fanfare’ from the Overture to William Tell by Rossini; and
- Fanfare for the Common Man by Copland.
Focus on enabling the pupils to learn to play the Rossini fanfare, either by ear or from notation.
