Thought tracking and freeze frame: using extract from Billy

Learning intentions

  • We are learning to use thought tracking and freeze frame.

What to look for

  • Pupils giving and responding to verbal feedback
  • Pupils using tableau
  • Pupils using freeze frame appropriately
  • Pupils using thought tracking to contribute to discussion of a script
  • Pupils discussing and evaluating their work at the end of the lesson

Learning activities

Provide copies of an extract from Billy for the pupils to read individually.

Discuss the extract together in terms of:

  • context;
  • situation; and
  • characters.

Have the pupils work in pairs to create a tableau illustrating the bullying scene. They could discuss and thought track the characters.

Still working in pairs, ask the pupils to create a tableau of movement of the punishment imposed by the teacher. Ask them to thought track and discuss the scene.

Have them create movement at the end of the punishment, for example handing back the bag. Then they freeze the action, thought track and discuss.

Discuss the situation together. Ask questions to help the pupils draw conclusions about the bully and the victim.
