Dance movement 1
Learning intentions
- We are learning to develop movements using our arms and legs.
- We are learning to devise a sequence of movements.
- We are learning to work in pairs to develop our understanding of movement.
- We are learning to devise and participate in a group movement activity.
What to look for
- Pupils demonstrating a range of movements
- Pupils putting together a sequence of movements incorporating various techniques
- Pupils teaching their routine to a partner
- Pupils working together as a group to devise a movement sequence
- Pupils moving clockwise and anti-clockwise
Learning activities
Encourage the pupils to use their arms and legs to explore moving in a variety of different ways, for example:
- pushing;
- pulling;
- stretching;
- reaching; or
- kicking.
Individually, give them time to put together a sequence of movements using different levels which illustrate words, for example:
- push;
- pull;
- reach;
- stretch; and
- turn.
Ask them to teach each other their routine in pairs, incorporating the different movements and levels. This could be with or without music.
Divide the pupils into groups of 3–4. Ask them to devise a routine that incorporates levels and movement words. They may come up with movement words of their own. Give them an opportunity to perform the routine in unison (with or without music).
Introduce movement around the room clockwise and anti-clockwise (you could use start/freeze signs).
