Learning activities
Take the class on an imaginary bus journey to a camp site.
Involve everyone in a discussion about items they would need to pack for a camping trip, for example:
- a tent;
- food; and
- clothing.
Lead the pupils in some singing on their way to the campsite and, when they ‘arrive’, divide them into groups to erect a tent and prepare a meal.
Explain the scenario: in groups of 4–5, the pupils go off into the forest to collect materials to make a fire. They get lost and it gets dark. Ask questions, such as:
- How do they feel?
- How will they find their way back?
In groups, ask them to discuss their plan for returning safely.
Give each group an opportunity to act out their return to camp.
