Pupils in role

Learning intentions

  • We are learning to develop their imaginative thinking while in role.

What to look for

  • Pupils engaging fully in imaginative thinking and imaginative movements
  • Pupils moving imaginatively in response to a given situation or scenario
  • Pupils discussing imagined situations

Learning activities

Lead the pupils on imaginary journeys linked to ongoing learning and teaching topics, for example:

  • going through an imaginary door into Snow White’s cottage;
  • going on a bear hunt;
  • taking a ride on a magic carpet; or
  • travelling through space in a rocket.

Start by using questions to guide them into imaginative thinking. Encourage them to think about, for example:

  • what items they would need to take on their journeys; and
  • what their movements would be like.
