Movement and gesture
Learning intentions
- We are learning to use appropriate gestures and movements.
- We are learning to consider and employ appropriate gestures and movements in freeze frames.
What to look for
- Pupils engaging fully in drama games
- Pupils using appropriate gestures and movements in drama games
- Pupils thinking about and discussing what gestures/movement they are using
Learning activities
Lead the pupils in some drama games, for example:
- Fruit Salad;
- Musical Statues;
- Pair work on making the shapes of numbers and letters with their bodies; or
- Sculptor and Sculpture. For example, put them into pairs and have them take turns to sculpt their partner into a monster.
Ask the pupils to freeze a movement or action as it is happening, for example:
- when Kipper’s friends arrive at his party on his birthday (from Oxford Reading Tree); or
- when the mouse meets the gruffalo for the first time in the forest.
