Reporting on Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities for Key Stage 3
When reporting on the Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities (called “Other Skills” in the Regulations), schools need to provide information on pupils’ experiences and progress in each of the five strands of the Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities (TS&PC) framework in years 8, 9 and 10.
As stated in The Education (Pupil Reporting) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2009, information should be provided annually to the parents of each pupil in Key Stage 3 in relation to his/her educational and other achievements (Regulations 5 and 6 and Schedule 1) and give particulars of the pupil’s achievement in any other Area of Learning or activity which forms part of his/her curriculum including:
- Other Skills:
- Thinking, Problem-Solving and Decision Making
- Self Management
- Working with Others
- Managing Information
- Being Creative
The comments in relation to Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities may be embedded within the subject/Area of Learning commentary.
It should be noted that there is a requirement within the Learning Outcomes for each subject to address the acquisition and development of the Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities; therefore those subject strands identified as reporting on the TS&PC do not carry sole responsibility for their acquisition and development.
