Assessment and Reporting at Key Stage 3
Key Stage 3 Pupil Profile
From 2008/09, the Annual Pupil Profile Report will become the statutory means of reporting to parents for Year 8 and Year 9 pupils. By 2009/10, the Annual Pupil Profile Report will be used for all pupils in Key Stage 3.
The purpose of the Pupil Profile at Key Stage 3 is to:
- provide information on pupil learning, progress and achievements; and
- inform decisions about courses, career options and school pathways at Key Stage 4.
Schools are encouraged to develop a version of the Annual Pupil Profile Report that reflects the revised Northern Ireland Curriculum and is meaningful for their pupils and parents.

To assist with planning for the implementation of the Pupil Profile for 2008/09, exemplar formats are available for discussion and use within your school. The exemplars illustrate possible approaches to reporting within a revised Northern Ireland Curriculum context and reflect the statutory requirements for assessment.
In each exemplar, reporting takes place in the following areas:
- Areas of Learning (including Learning for Life and Work);
- Cross-Curricular Skills (Communication, Using Mathematics and Using ICT); and
- Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities.
